Jane’s studio shared with Textile artist Lizzie Godden this year for Open Studios, which worked very well.

Apple Pi at the Orchard Trust, Lydbrook, Forest of Dean, 2019

8 Gloucestershire apple trees, planted in an 8 metre diameter circle - so each tree is Pi metres apart from its neighbour, along the circle’s arc. Each apple tree will be espalier trained by Phil Hucks of the Orchard Trust, following expert Sue Gibson’s directions. A contemplative, sheltered space will be formed, which can also be used by the Orchard Trust residents and visitors as an outdoor learning space. The trees were donated for this project by Trust Juice, which supports traditional orchards in Gloucestershire. We would like to thank both Sue Gibson and Alison Parfitt, of Trust Juice, for their support.

Our friend Alison Parfitt, an illustrator, researcher and conservationist, sadly died in December 2019. ‘Apple Pi’ is dedicated to her memory.

Writing News

From February 2024 to May 2025 Jane was Poet in Residence at Clearwell Caves Ancient Iron Mines.

Her first collection, Cave Whale, (Alba Publishing) is out in May 2026. You may get a copy using the contact form here, and from good local bookshops. Read it among the bluebells!

Art News

For FarOPEN 2025, Jane was delighted to share her studio with textile artist and eco printer Lizzie Godden, and printmaker Eileen O’Haire. On a sweltering open evening, grandson Arlo was also delighted to share his paddling pool with guests and visitors.

Walking with the Wye 2021

Walking from source to sea with water from the source, drawing attention to the polluted state of the Wye and our other rivers. Jane made a special pot to carry the water in on its journey down the Wye.
